JukeFly iPhone App
December 23rd, 2009 by Dinesh NairThe JukeFly iPhone App was approved this morning and is available for download from the app store. It is FREE for a limited time. So please get it ASAP :). You can stream all the music in your home PC through the iPhone. In case the home PC is unavailable it will stream video versions of your songs - just like the website. The iPhone app lets you navigate through your music collection by playlists, songs, artists, albums or genres. You can also listen to the video versions all your friends’ and the community library/playlists. Other features include lyrics/artist info/videos. Please download it and let us know what you think (reviews in the app store will help :)) - the JukeFly app does a lot more than other paid apps like Simplify Media ($7.99)

I downloaded the iPhone app this past week & am loving the ability to stream music from my PC library. Awesome work guys !
I am having a problem, tho… I am able to access my 4,000+ songs on the iphone, but with so many & with poor my ID tags, none of the standard aritsit, album, title, or genre seach methods are helpful… my library is a big mess. So, I wanted to create my own playlists, but I can’t figure out how to do it on the windows software.
I read a few posts back that it doesnt work with the newer firefox builds, so I tried explorer as well with no luck. First I tried creating a playlist on the PC… it made the playlist grouping all right, but I can’t find anyway to get my own library songs in there. I also made .m3u playlists and tried to import those into jukefly…it allows me to select my .m3u playlist, but it seems that noting is actually happening… even after refreshing, rebooting, the imported .m3u lists are nowhere to be found.
Is there some trick to making / importing playlists so that I can more easily navigate thru my own unruly library collection? Sorry if I am missing something obvious, but any advice would be greatly appreciated !!!
On the same note, perhaps some ideas for future updates… the ability to search my own music library via the PC folders they are in? Also, a search function on the iphone app (where I can type in what I want) would be great.
Thanks & keep up the awesome work !!

yahagishogo - In order to make playlists - just click on the “New Playlist” option under “My Playlists”. Then you can drag and drop any song (from your library/search results/etc.) to this playlist. Sorry that this is not obvious - let me know if you have any other questions or have any issues with this.

just downloaded ipod touch app & joined up this is just what i was looking for - thank you
1 problem though when i filter on artists it then lists alphabetically all tracks by that artist.
is their a way of choosing artist then album & it then shows the album in the correct order rather than alphabetically?
i know that if you go to straight to albums i get the right order
many thanks in advance

The ability to play jukefly in the background would be nice. I’ve only seen a FEW apps that will do this, one of which being a radio station (107.9 the link in Charlotte). But because it does, I listen to their station through the app a TON.

Hi
can you explain how to set the shuffle
feature for the Iphone?
March 22nd, 2010 at 11:09 am
Rich -
The iPhone app does not support the shuffle feature presently. I’m working on an update that will have it along with other frequently requested features. Let me know if there is anything else that you think is missing
Thanks,
Dinesh

Dinesh,

Is there any way to play my music straight from my home PC without having it load videos from the web for every song?
I don’t care about alternate information or media, I just want it to play the mp3s my computer is dishing up to it.
March 25th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Ren -
If I understand correctly - the app only plays videos and does not stream MP3s off of your PC ?
The app only plays video for your songs if it is unable to stream from the home PC. Make sure that JPMS is running on your PC. You can check this by logging in on the website (jukefly.com) and checking if you are connected to JPMS - the status displayed at the bottom right corner of the player.
If this is not clear or you need more assistance please feel free to email me directly - dnair at jukefly dot com
Thanks,
Dinesh

Hrmm… I probably just misunderstood what was happening. If it works as you describe then this is exactly what I need! I will double check when I get home.
The only suggestion I would have, then, would be some way to let the user know what “mode” it is currently in. It seemed to me like it was accessing my computer, because it listed my songs and everything, but apparently it wasn’t.

Will we see the ability to scrobble to last.fm with this app?

Great post. If you want to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone - I strongly recommend BBC Streams - it is easily the quickest and most reliable way to listen to BBC Radio on the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and it’s free at BBCStreams.com.

I liek it but one issue is a real problem for me. If I go to Library - Artists - I would ratehr it give me a list of albums by that artist that I can then select - instead it lists all teh songs in all the albums by that artist and all out of order. Any chance of an update to fix this?
Thanks

I love this app. Great work. I’m excited to see that there are others working on this kind of project besides the crappy Simplify Media team. How dare them make us buy the app then leave us with no explanation of what to expect from them in the future.
I’m excited about the lyrics tab that actually works! Awesome. I also like the option to manually set the bit rate. …And it loads music really quickly!
I would like to offer some suggestions that would greatly improve the usability of the iphone app (some of which have been mentioned already):
- Create playlist option within the app
- Add a search for artist, album, or song within your pc music and a separate one for community music
- Shuffle option for any selected list of music (search results, playlist, or all)
- Truncate the word “The” from the artist name before sorting any lists based on artist
- Load entire list (songs, artists, albums, genres) instead of just the portion you are viewing. It can be a little slow looking through the track list when you have to wait for the track titles to load every time you scroll.
- Add automatic option to the streaming bit-rate settings that adjusts itself for the best listening quality for your current connection.
I’m not sure if these are possible because of apple, but…:
- Be able to background JukeFly
- Add options for hot key to skip or pause tracks (like the built ipod on double clicking home button)
- Accept commands from headset clicks when JukeFly is running. (volume, skip track, play/pause)
Keep up the good work!

I love this app!!
I used Simplify Music for one year and now I’m looking for alternatives. (They terminated the service.) Jukefly is simply amazing!! It´s works!!
There are two things I would like to see in the iPhone app: shuffle mode and last.fm scrobbling.
Thank you for this awesome service!!

Please update for iOS4. This is the one blemish on an otherwise fantastic app.
*PS - Sorry there are two blemishes. You should release a Mac client as well :)*

First off, I love this app. I previously used Simpify Media and had constant connection problems with it.
That said, I’ve noticed on Albums that use Various Artists (such as soundtracks) that JukeFly is organizing them as separate albums because it is using the song artist instead of the album artist.
For example:
Song 1:
Album: Valentine’s Day Soundtrack
Album Artist: Various Artists
Song: Stay Here Forever
Song Artist: Jewel
Song2:
Album: Valentine’s Day Soundtrack
Album Artist: Various Artists
Song: Jump Then Fall
Song Artist: Taylor Swift
In JukeFly songs 1 and 2 above show up as being in different albums because it’s using the song artist/album name as an identifier. If it used the album artist/album name as an identifier then they would be grouped properly. I own a lot of soundtracks and this keeps me from being able to play them as an album. I currently have to go from one album to the next and play the individual songs.
Thanks, again!

dnair,
Here are my top feature requests:
1. Recognition of and ability to play Genius playlists from my home PC.
2. Ability to view and play and album when browsing by “Artist.”
3. Ability to update Jukefly when I add new music to my music library.
4. Shuffle
5. Ability to play music in the background of any other app.
Great work. Thanks!
August 10th, 2010 at 12:54 am
I would like to add the following requests:
- buffer next song when the end of the previous song is reached to have seamless playing
- combine compilations to one entry in the album-section (same for the webbased jukefly)
-
August 18th, 2010 at 10:23 am
I get the feeling jukefly died some time ago. Kind of running headless now. Good luck with your requests.
August 18th, 2010 at 11:25 am
Craig,
JukeFly is alive and well. We are working on a bunch of new features and redesigns and all the requests are always taken into consideration and are a great help in prioritizing the features.
Regards,
Dinesh

Hi love the service, but the iphone app keeps crashing when playing some songs or when looking up an artist in the player section.
August 23rd, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Hi Amado,
Can you please give an example of an artist that causes it to crash ?
Thanks,
Dinesh
August 27th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
